Free Tilikum!

Hellow everyone,

I wanted to make a personal update post on what’s going on because I find this important. Now, I am not a fan of sharing my personal life on here or my opinions on social issues whatsoever, but I found this important.

  • I didn’t have the chance to post in my daily food journal, but this was due to a pretty big event that happened. As you all may have heard, Republican Presidential candidate, Donald J. Trump, and Democrat Bernie Sanders were in Chicago. Being from the Chicago area suburbs, I clearly found this exciting. I’m pretty sure you guys already heard all over the news about the rally the other night in Chicago. Thousands of protesters showed up to Trump’s rally which caused him to postponed his rally for “security threats.” Most of the of protesters were young students and minorities. Being both a college student and minority, I can completely relate to their incredible dislike for Donald Trump. I think it’s interesting how many Trump supporters claim that his right of freedom of speech was violated when most of the crap that this idiot says and wants is a complete violation of the constitution and the people’s rights. Bernie gave an amazing speech at U of I and mentioned the situation in Chicago. He mentions that his campaign is about connecting the American people: Whites, Blacks, Mexicans, Immigrants, Gays, Women, Men, everyone. What an incredible and thoughtful way of living.
  • Another big issue I came across is one concerning animal rights. I’m not sure if you guys are familiar with the documentary, Blackfish. If not, I highly recommend you guys check it out, it’s absolutely incredible and a huge eye opener. It’s also on Netflix! For those who haven’t watched it, I’ll give you a brief summary. The documentary features the life of a killer whale at SeaWorld, Tilikum. Tilikum among other captive orcas, was captured and taken away from his mother and family from a young age. He was forced to perform for humans and confined in a pool equivalent to the size of a bathtub for him. He’s also responsible for the death of three SeaWorld trainers including Dawn Brancheau in 2010. Since the incident, Tilikum was forced to live in a small pool where he can’t even swim he only floats there motionless, isolated from the rest of the whales and humans. After almost thirty years of suffering, Tilikum has developed an illness and may die. Tilikum may die after only knowing nothing but pain, suffering, and isolation. Tilikum’s aggression stems from isolation. Think about it: if you were stolen from your mom and your family since being a baby, forced to live in a tiny swimming pool/bedroom with others you have never met before, denied of all your basic freedoms and rights, forced to perform for crowds of people, and spent the last year in a tiny room where you couldn’t even stretch your legs, you’re forced to be in the same position and without any contact from the outside world, you’d be going a little killer whale and become sick too. Please be weary of SeaWorld and urge to free Tilikum once and for all. Please sign the petition now!
  • The last note I want to leave you guys off on is one of women’s rights. It’s important that we as women, continue to push legislature for our rights. The government has no right to tell us what we can and can’t do with our bodies especially our reproductive organs. With the face of a new supreme court justice, we need to make sure that this person fully believes and understands the constitution and holds firm the decision of Roe V. Wade. It’s becoming harder and harder for women to even have access to safe abortions when it’s our human right to do so. The government should be making it easier for women to get abortions not harder. So please support Planned Parenthood, women’s rights, and abortion rights. Sign the petition now!

Thank you all for listening and please be active about these social issues!
